Making a splash
I don’t like crowds. So when my fiancé suggested we go for a swim in the river Sava at the height of the school holidays, during a heatwave, on the weekend - I wasn’t initially excited. Yet, we packed up a bag of supplies and headed out.
My son is a water baby. As soon as we can see the glisten of a body of water he is drawn to it. Through the chaos of getting him dressed, ordering a refreshing lemonade and preparing ourselves I took a moment to indulge in my favourite pastime. People watching.
There isn’t the rush or haste I’m so used to in England, no one is getting stressed to placate children. No one conscious or caring of how they look. Anxious of occupying another’s space. Everyone just is.
For the first time in my adult life, I stilled. I was present. I was able to enjoy family time without sacrifice to my personal enjoyment. Now that is a huge lesson to learn for me.
