First impressions of Serbia
I have only been in Serbia for a few days and it already feels so different this time. Knowing that this is now my home, it’s as if the country has gained consciousness and decided to seep deep into my bones. The hot thick air that met me when leaving the airport was like the comforting hug of an old friend.
In true Balkan style, friends, family and neighbours have immediately stepped in to help us settle in and deal with some admin. As a naturally anxious person, it surprises me that those feelings that bubble in my chest seem to settle here. I feel safe, grounded and optimistic.
Simple food is full of flavour and reminds me of my childhood. This is the whole point, for my son to grow up experiencing the joys of a slow paced life and draw him away from the iPad culture we often succumb to in England. We have simply spent the last few days unpacking, resting and eating.
